THC-O is a psychoactive cannabinoid derived from hemp. THC-O shares similar effects associated with delta-9 THC, including euphoria, drowsiness, and tiredness. However, THC-O may offer a staggering difference in potency compared to delta-9 THC. This is because THC-O has an attached acetate group that eases the cannabinoid’s ability to traverse lipid-sensitive layers in the digestive tract and brain — meaning the molecule could bring stronger effects and increased potency.
With the passage of the 2018 Farm Bill, hemp-derived cannabinoids were legalized across the United States, ushering in a wave of CBD products and other prominent cannabinoids. Despite this, THC-O exists in somewhat of a legal grey area. THC-O may be held to a similar standard to its sister cannabinoid delta-8 THC. This means it could be criminalized and illegal in certain states. If you’re curious about which states delta-8 THC is legal — and illegal in, visit our Delta-8 THC Legal State Guide. We hope it can provide some clarity!
